October 8, Fineko/abc.az. Hungary plans to develop renewable energy sources on a large scale in order to lower dependence on imports and reduce the cost of electricity for businesses.
In August, the authorities announced a tender procedure for the construction of wind farms with total capacity of 700 MW. By 2030, the wind power capacity is planned to increase to 4 GW, and by 2040 - to more than 6 GW. At that, approx. 9 GW of solar capacity has already been installed in the country.
More than 80% of Hungary's fuel needs, including oil, gas and nuclear fuel, are covered by imports. The authorities also plan to direct part of the unblocked EU funding to strengthen energy infrastructure.
At that, the authorities consider the extension of the operation of the Paksha NPP with capacity of 2 GW to be a priority project.
