US Dollar Heading for Weekly Decline Amid AI Stock Selloff

14:23 - 16.10.2026

October 16, Fineko/abc.az. The US dollar is set for its first weekly decline in over a month against major currencies, with the Dollar Index falling 0.25% to 101.77 and tracking a 0.45% weekly drop.

The downturn follows a sharp selloff in AI stocks and concerns over tech supply chain debt, which shifted investor focus to a potentially more dovish Federal Reserve rate outlook. Rather than driving safe-haven demand toward the dollar, market anxiety boosted the Swiss franc, which is heading for a 0.61% weekly gain against the greenback.

Macquarie Group strategists noted that reduced AI investment outlooks could constrain US economic growth and pressure yields into 2027. According to the CME FedWatch Tool, markets are currently pricing in an 87% chance that the Fed will keep interest rates unchanged later this month.
