Putin Approves Restructuring and Sale of UniCredit’s Russian Assets

09:41 - 6.10.2026

October 6, Fineko/abc.az. Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree authorizing Italy's UniCredit to reorganize its Russian subsidiary and sell the newly formed corporate entity. Under Russia's regulatory restrictions on asset transfers by investors from designated "unfriendly" nations, the transaction required official presidential approval.

The approved framework enables UniCredit to execute a preliminary agreement to sell a portion of its Russian operations to a private investor based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The transaction marks a key step for the Italian lender to scale down its market presence in Russia amid ongoing European regulatory pressure.
